Here is something that our current President Prof Tan Chorh Chuan highlighted in the recent State of the University Address. Just looking at the title amazed me: Continuity and Transformation! What this essentially means is that in NUS, Prof Tan said that we need to continue do what what works, while at the same time work towards transformation of NUS.
I believe that it is not simply coincidental the terminology and the heartbeat of our church is similar, that is we are too re-visiting and doing once again what worked, while at the same time working towards transforming community. God has directed the heart of our "king" and aligned it with what He is planning to do here in Singapore, for "The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases" (Proverbs 21:1).
This is a quote from an article on the University Address: http://newshub.nus.edu.sg/headlines/1008/soua_10oct08.html
The University, said Prof Tan, is at a pivotal point in time.
“Ask yourself what you want your University to be. What is your vision for the future for NUS in our quest to be amongst the great universities of the world. And then, be one of the people who will help make that future happen.”
